SALUTE

Me savoring my morning break fast cup of green tea, sweetened with raw honey and vanilla coconut milk. As I pray and meditate on the natives who lost their lives and morn a great heritage that was almost completely eradicated through the genocide masked as a festive gathering, I'm gearing up for a busy holiday shift for myself and our crew, asking that the universe and great mother/ father and the ancestors keep us safe as we serve the city. Honor to my personal chief, my husband Amond, a direct descendant of the Choctaw nation, word to my Cherokee homie- 'chop' and to my brother Kalonji - the grandson of Sam Pace; peace to the American Indian Movement for the work they put in- salute Leonard Peltier, Sitting Bull, the Nez Perce, those who died on the Trail of Tears- and the rest of the tribes who didn't and still don't take no shit. Today I fast in your honor. #DiaryOfAVeganFirefighter

Mommy Tips 11/07/11

Prepare EVERYTHING at night, go to bed on time and wake up 30 minutes early before alarm to make for a smooth morning. I iron and lay out everyone's clothes, pack lunch for two days for all the seeds, make sure all homework is checked and packed, all school forms are signed, and group together the ingredients I'm going to make their hot breakfast with the night before. I also set my clock 30-45 minutes fast. Mornings are sacred and shouldn't be rushed. It rattles the seeds and pisses mommies off. Preparing for your day in advance makes for a peaceful and loving time for the family. Breakfast isn't rushed and you aren't burning up your gas by flooring it at every green light. #MommyTips
